Our commitment to protecting the planet
The high-tech industries significantly contribute to greenhouse gas emissions, with an estimated 76.5 million tons of CO2 equivalent emissions in 2021.
These emissions stem from both direct sources and those related to energy consumption during manufacturing.
The industry's emissions are projected to increase further, potentially quadrupling by 2030, particularly in America and Europe.
Okapius has an Office of Environment, Policy, and Social Initiatives reporting to CEO Lea Bele.
This office collaborates with teams throughout Okapius to establish strategy, engage stakeholders, and communicate progress on the company’s commitments to tackle climate change, develop environmentally friendly materials for safer products, and utilize materials as efficiently as possible.
This integrated strategic thinking ensures that all environmental issues are discussed at the highest level of the company.
Okapius executives consistently review each new product throughout its development, scrutinizing the origin of raw materials, the product design, the entire supply chain, packaging, and the product's energy efficiency.
Okapius plans to reach zero net emissions by 2030 through a multi-faceted strategy that includes significantly reducing emissions, investing in renewable energy, and carbon offsetting. The company aims to reduce its carbon footprint by 90% by 2030 and 100% by 2050, using its supply chains in the DRC and Africa.
